
Eight Earn All-Region Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Eight members of the Syracuse women's lacrosse team have earned sports on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Region Team announced on Wednesday, May 19.

Graduate students Asa Goldstock and Ella Simkins, senior Sam Swart, and juniors Megan Carney, Sierra Cockerille, Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell are All-Northeast Region First Team selections, while graduate student Kerry Defliese is a second-team selection. The 'Cuse's seven first-team picks are most for any school in the nation.

Goldstock has started all 18 games in goal for the Orange and has posted a 9.23 goals-against average and a .454 save percentage. She has recorded 10 or more saves four times this season, including a career-high 17 at Duke. Goldstock has 642 saves, which rank second on Syracuse's all-time record list, just 18 behind all-time leader Liz Hogan (2008-11).

Simkins, Cooper and Defliese anchor the Orange defensive that ranks 10th in the nation in scoring defense. Cooper and Simkins are tied for the team lead in caused turnovers (31), while Defliese is third (25). The trio also rank one through three in ground balls with career highs this season. In addition, Simkins leads the Orange in draw controls with a career-high 70 to goal along with a personal-best three assists.

Swart and Cockerille are members of Syracuse's first midfield line. Swart is tied for third on team in goals (34), while Cockerille is tied for second in assists (25). Swart scored eight goals on her first eight shots of the season and has three or more goals six times this season. Cockerille has posted career highs in every statistical category, including points (45), goals (21), assists and ground balls (16).

Carney and Tyrrell formed one of the most dynamic scoring duos in the nation in 2021. Tyrrell leads the Orange in points (96), goals (59) and assists (39). He 96 points rank and her 39 assists are good for seventh place on Syracuse's single-season record list. Carney is second on the team in points (69) and goals (49) despite missing the last five games after suffering a season-ending knee injury on April 22. Carney recorded four or more points 11 times this season.

The Orange earned the No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and host No. 6 seed Florida in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 22 at 2 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium.
