Berkeley, Calif. – No. 42 Syracuse takes on No. 26 Kentucky in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship on May 7. The match between the Orange and Wildcats begins at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Friday's match marks the fourth NCAA tournament appearance for the Orange. They are 2-3 all-time in the tournament.

Syracuse has advanced to the second round of the national tournament twice – 2016 and 2019. In 2019, graduate students Miranda Ramirez and Guzal Yusupova and junior Sofya Treshcheva helped the Orange defeat Wisconsin in the opening round. Ramirez and Treshcheva helped Syracuse secure the doubles point against the Badgers. Ramirez also posted a win at No. 3 singles, and Yusupova's victory at No. 4 singles secured the 4-2 triumph for the 'Cuse.

Syracuse took down San Francisco last Sunday, 4-3, to close out the regular season at 8-11.

Freshman Viktoriya Kanapatskaya had an incredible year and closed out the regular season ranked the No. 11 singles player in the country. The Belarus native's 11-5 record propelled her onto the All-ACC First Team.

Kanapatskaya and doubles partner Natalie Novotna are the No. 38 doubles team in the nation.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Kentucky (15-8) was eliminated from the SEC tournament in the second round by Georgia. The Wildcats are led by the No. 28 singles player in the nation, Akvilė Paražinskaitė. Head coach Carlos Drada is in his 16th year with the program.

The winner of the Syracuse-Kentucky match faces either San Jose State (15-1) or No. 16 seed California (17-6) in the second round.
