Five Orange Earn NFHCA All-Region

Five members of the Syracuse field hockey team are National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Mideast Region, announced Tuesday. Charlotte de Vries, Laura Graziosi, Pleun Lammers, and Eefke van den Nieuwenhof were first team selections while Hailey Bitters was a second team honoree. It marks the second time both de Vries and Graziosi are NFHCA First Team All-Region.Â
De Vries led the Orange with 13 points this season (5 goals, 3 assists) in 16 appearances. She had two game-winning goals and scored in five different contests. Against Saint Joseph's, de Vries scored a goal and added and assist in the win on March 7.Â
Graziosi tallied eight points this season playing every game in Syracuse's midfield. Graziosi scored four goals, including two game-winners, this season. The junior had a pair of goals against Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) quarterfinals on Nov. 5, 2020.Â
Lammers made her Orange debut as a redshirt sophomore this season where she tied de Vries for the team-lead in goals (5) and ranked second on the team in points (13). Lammers scored a pair of game-winning goals and had a pair of multi-goal games against Towson (March 14) and North Carolina (April 18). Her two goals and one assist against Towson was a career-high points in a game (5) for the Doetinchem, Netherlands native.Â
Van den Nieuwenhof, the anchor to Syracuse's defense, had an impressive rookie season where she tallied eight points with three goals and two assists. She added two defensive saves on the season and helped the Orange to a 1.77 goals against average through 16 games.Â
All four of Syracuse's NFHCA First Team All-Region selections were All-ACC honorees during the unique 2020-21 season.Â
Bitters was Syracuse's lone selection to the NFHCA All-Region Second Team. The Delmar, Md., native scored three goals for six points in 15 games. Bitters capped off her sophomore campaign scoring in back-to-back goals to end the season.Â
NFHCA Division I All-Region Teams are separated into five regions that each recognize 16 student-athletes on a first team and 16 on a second team.
The NFHCA Division I All-Region team announcement is the first in a list of postseason awards to come from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) over the next several weeks. Next to be announced are the NFHCA Regional Players of the Year on June 7 — they will be followed by the NFHCA All-American teams and the NFHCA National Player of the Year which will be revealed during the live NFHCA Awards Show sponsored by AstroTurf® on June 15, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
