GREENSBORO, N.C. – Syracuse juniors Sarah Cooper and Meaghan Tyrrell lead a group of 11 members of the Orange named to the All-ACC Women's Lacrosse Academic Team announced on Tuesday, June 15. The 11 honorees are the highest number for any school in the league and the most for Syracuse since joining the league in 2013-14.
Â
Cooper and Tyrrell earn the honor for the second time in their careers. They are joined on the All-ACC Academic Team by graduate students Kerry Defliese, Emily Ehle, Asa Goldstock, Lila Nazarian, Ella Simkins, senior Grace Fahey, junior Megan Carney, sophomore Emma Tyrrell and freshman Emma Ward.
Â
Cooper, Defliese, Goldstock, Nazarian, Simkins and Fahey were part of Syracuse's defensive unit that ranked 15th in the nation in the final NCAA statistics in scoring defense. The Orange held its opponents to less than 10 goals 10 times in 2021.
Â
Meaghan Tyrrell, Ehle, Carney, Emma Tyrrell and Ward led the 'Cuse's high-powered offense that averaged 15.14 goals per game. Syracuse scored 18 or more goals seven times, including a season-best 21 against Northwestern in the national semifinals.
Â
The Orange's 11 selections to the All-ACC Academic Team shatter their previous best total of seven in 2014 and 2016.
Â
Syracuse is coming off one of its best seasons in program history. The Orange made their eighth appearance at Championship Weekend and defeated No. 2 Northwestern in the semifinals to advance to the national championship game for the third time.
