
Zaferes Selected to Team USA for Tokyo Olympics

Syracuse alum Katie Zaferes is headed to Tokyo!
Zaferes (formerly Katie Hursey) is set to compete in her second Olympics after competing in Rio in 2016. The triathlete claimed her first world championship in the 2019 International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championship.
Zaferes is one-of-five triathletes set to compete in Tokyo for Team USA. Three women and two men qualified based on Team USA's selection criteria.
The Tokyo games will feature a men's and women's triathlon, as well as the mixed relay format for the first time. The mixed relay will feature four competitors per country.
The women's triathlon is set for Monday, July 26 at 5:30 p.m. ET and the mixed relay is scheduled for Friday, July 30 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
At 'Cuse, Zaferes was a USTFCCCA Honorable Mention All-American in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She held the Orange record in the event until 2018, when All-American Paige Stoner broke the record.
The current squad will take on the Harry Lang Invitational on Saturday to open the season.
