Syracuse had a successful opener, defeating Fairleigh Dickinson, 2-0, on Sunday at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange's Telly Vunipola and Ashley Rauch provided the scoring for Syracuse.
A TELLY TALLY
Senior Telly Vunipola found the back of the net first for the Orange on a second-half penalty kick.The goal, 51:18 into the contest, was the first of Vunipola's tenure at Syracuse.
RAUCH'S FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL
Freshman Ashley Rauch provided the Orange with an insurance goal late in the second half. Vunipola's lead pass found Rauch on the left wing and her boot reached the opposite corner of the net. it provided the Orange with a 2-0 advantage iwth 7:11 remaining in regulation.
PROULX'S PLACE
Lysianne Proulx, a graduate student,kept Fairleight Dickinson off the scoreboard to earn the shutout. Proulx finished with six saves.She moved into sixth on SU's career save list, reaching 191. She moved one ahead of Emily Kowalczyk (2002-05).
It marked her fifth complete-game shutout with the Orange.

Syracuse hosts Niagara as part of soccer doubleheader on Thursday, August 26, at the Soccer Stadium. Coach Nicky Adams squad plays Niagara at 4:30 p.m., followed by the Syracuse men against Drexel.

- The Orange program's most recent victory in game one came when Syracuse defeated Colgate, 1-0, in 2019.

- Senior Alina Miagkova had Syracuse's best chance in the first half, clanging a drive off the crossbar.
