Syracuse Blanks Drexel to Open 2021 Season

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse scored two goals in the second half to beat Drexel in the first match of the 2021 campaign. The Orange improve to 8-4 in season opening games under the direction of head coach Ian McIntyre.

In the 65th minute senior Colin Biros netted his first Syracuse goal, redirecting the ball into the net on the left side to put the Orange ahead, 1-0. Noah Singelmann set up the score on a free kick that Buster Sjorberg fed to Biros in front of the goal.

Less than 10 minutes later, junior Christian Curti scored on a corner kick from Singelmann on the right side of the goal, putting the ball between the Drexel goalie and the post. It was Curti's first goal at Syracuse.

Of Note
Six members of Syracuse's starting lineup are in their first year on the 'Cuse roster.
Orange goalkeeper Russell Shealy recorded his third Syracuse shutout.
McIntyre has a 97-77-34 record in his 12 seasons at Syracuse.

The Orange will play at Penn State on Sunday, August 29 at 7 pm before returning home to host Georgetown on Friday, September 3rd (7 pm) and Niagara on Monday, September 6th (7 pm).
