Jerami Grant joined Carmelo Anthony as former Syracuse players who earned Olympic Gold Medals when Team USA defeated France, 87-82, in the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.Â
Kevin Durant paced the Americans with 29 points, including two free throws in the final nine seconds that clinched the gold-medal triumph. It was Team USA's fourth straight gold medal. Durant tied Anthony for the most gold medals in Olympic men's basketball history with his third.
Grant was a key reserve for the squad coached by Gregg Popovich, the head coach of the San Antonio Spurs. The gold medal for Grant came after his most successful NBA season in 2020-21. The 6-8, 210 forward signed with the Detroit Pistons prior to the campaign and emerged as a force at both ends of the floor.
He saw action in four of the six games Team USA played at the Olympics.
Grant owned previous international experience as a member of Team USA's Under-18 squad that won a gold medal at the 2012 FIBA Americas Championship in Brazil.
He played two seasons at Syracuse (2012-13, 2013-14) before opting for the NBA Draft. He was selected 39th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2014 draft.
