SYRACUSE N.Y.- A back-and-forth match between teams receiving votes in the national polls resulted in a 5-4 double overtime loss for the Orange to Louisville in the 103rd minute.Â
Â
"I'm proud of our guys," said head coach Ian McIntyre. "It was a wonderful ACC match under the lights on Friday night and if we keep working like this, we will continue to win some games".Â
In the first half, Syracuse (4-3 overall, 1-1 ACC) and Louisville (4-2, 2-0) combined for four goals on penalty kicks. In the 18th minute of the game Louisville senior forward Pedro Fonseca scored off the first penalty kick. Just two minutes later, sophomore forward Deandre Kerr scored the first goal for the Orange. Fonseca scored his second goal off a penalty kick in the 23rd minute and Kerr came back with another goal off a penalty kick in the 28th minute. Kerr has scored at least one goal in each of the last four games for the Orange.
Â
The Cardinals scored two goals in the second half. Freshman forward Aboubacar Camara scored the third goal of the game to make the score 3-2. The Orange answered in the 55th minute when Curt Calov scored on a header off after a shot from Julius Rauch was blocked. Louisville sophomore forward Ugochukwu Achara scored the fourth goal in the 69th minute of the game to make the score 4-2 Louisville. Syracuse answered again to tie the score at 4-4 in the 81st minute when senior forward Colin Biros fed the ball to senior defender Christian Curti on the right side. Curti curled the ball just inside the left post for the goal.
Â
After neither team scored in the first overtime, Louisville freshman defender Josh Jones scored the game-winning goal in the 103rd minute of the game making the final score 5-4.
