Syracuse (4-2-1) begins the rugged ACC portion of its schedule against Notre Dame (6-1-1) on Saturday, September 18, at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium in South Bend, Ind.
SETTING THE STAGE
Syracuse was beaten by Connecticut on the road last Sunday, 3-0.
The Irish, who received votes in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Poll (Sept. 14), defeated Brown on Sept. 12, 2-1. It marked a second straight victory for Notre Dame.
THE SYRACUSE-NOTRE DAME SERIES
In Notre Dame, the Orange face a foe they have not defeated in 17 meetings. The Irish have a 16-0-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two programs first met in 1997, while the most recent pairing was a year ago, when Notre Dame claimed a 2-0 decision.
SYRACUSE "CORNERING" THE MARKET
The Orange have accumulated 63 corner kicks in seven games this fall. The 9.0 per-game average ranks first among ACC schools heading into the weekend of action.
FRESHMEN FIRST STRINGERS
Syracuse coach Nicky Adams has employed seven different freshmen in the starting lineup over the course of the first seven games of the season. Three of the rookies -- Koby Commandant, Emma Klein and Pauline Machtens, have started all seven contests. The four other first-year newcomers who have taken the pitch with the starting lineup include: Ashley Rauch, Grace Franklin, Kylen Grant and Liesel Odden.
FISHER A FORMIDABLE FIGHTING IRISH FOE
Graduate student Sammi Fisher is one of the top point-getters in the ACC. She is in a fifth-place tie for goals scored, with six, and ranks in an eight-place tie for total points, with 13. Another offensive force with the Irish is freshman Korbin Albert, who has found the back of the net four times in eight contests.
50 YEARS OF WOMEN'S ATHLETICS AT SYRACUSE
Orange alumni, fans and friends are invited to share in a year-long celebration of 50 years of Syracuse University women's athletics. Events and special recognition of all female student-athletes who have donned the Block S to represent Syracuse University and the Athletics Department since 1971-72 will be held throughout the 2021-22 seasons.
