SYRACUSE N.Y. – Syracuse and sixth-ranked Duke staged a defensive battle on Saturday night before 1,879 fans at the SU Soccer Stadium with the Blue Devils tallying a goal in the 81st minute for the 1-0 win. Duke sophomore forward Thor Ulfarsson put a shot in the top right corner off a cross from sophomore midfielder Peter Stroud who received a feed from freshman forward Shakur Mohammed.

"We kept an elite top-10 team fairly quiet," said head coach Ian McIntyre. "Unfortunately, it was a one goal game against a quality team that just did not go our way."

The Orange (4-4-1 overall, 1-2 in Atlantic Coast Conference) outshot Duke (6-1, 3-0) 10-8 and had six corner kicks to Duke's two.

UP NEXT
The Orange host Vermont on Tuesday (Sept. 28) at 7 p.m. at the SU Soccer Stadium and then travel to Pitt for another ACC match on Friday (Oct. 1) at 7 p.m.
