SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Sophomore Deandre Kerr scored the first goal of the game and assisted on the second to lead the Syracuse men's soccer team past Niagara, 2-0, on Monday night at the SU Soccer Stadium. The Orange (2-2 overall) scored both goals in the second half.
In the 58th minute of the game, Kerr found the back of the net starting from a pass from Giona Leibold to Noah Singelmann on the left side. Singelmann crossed the ball into Kerr in the box who finished the ball to make the score 1-0 Syracuse.
In the 89th minute of the game, Curt Calov scored the second goal for the Orange on a pass from Kerr. The sophomore fed the ball from the left side of the goal to Calov, who used his left foot to put the shot past Niagara (1-3) goalie Josh Savoni.
Syracuse graduate student Lucas Daunhauer made his Orange debut in goal after starting goalie Russell Shealy was injured during warmups. Danhauer saved the lone shot he faced in the match.
"We made life difficult for Niagara", said head coach Ian McIntyre. "I'm proud of the fact that the team faced adversity tonight and it still didn't affect them".
