Hayles Wins 60H With a Top Time to Headline VT Invite

Tucker makes much anticipated track debut
As the Syracuse track and field team ended six-week layoff and kicked off bulk of their indoor slate at the Virginia Tech Invitational, curious Orange football fans tuned in to watch Sean Tucker, an All-American running back and one of the nation's top football players, make his collegiate track and field debut.
While Tucker held his own in the early season meet that featured some top sprinters from both ACC and SEC programs, it was Jaheem Hayles posting one of the nation's top times in the 60-meter hurdles in his 'Cuse debut that left fans most pleased.
Hayles, the JUCO transfer from Iowa Central Community College, turned in a time of 7.90 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles. Only seven people have run faster times to date heading into tonight's meet nationally. Teammate Isaiah Lewis finished fifth (8.05), while Anthony Vazquez (8.15) took seventh after posting a PR of 8.01 in the prelims. Naseem Smith (8.16) took ninth, while Emanuel Joseph was 14th.
In the women's race, Shaleah Colaire was fourth with a time of 8.56, 0.03 seconds off the time she set in prelims.Â
Freshman Trei Thorogood was fifth in the men's 60-meter dash, crossing the line in 6.82 seconds, while Tucker took 13th in 7.01 in a 30-man field. In the women's event, Kahniya James was 13th, sprinting to a time of 7.75 seconds.
Janelle Pottinger was 12th in the women's 300-meters, crossing the line in 40.68 seconds, while Kennedy Tarley (40.92) was one place behind. Natalya Rodney and Jana Riley took 20th and 22nd, respectfully.
James Nmah concluded the evening with a 16th place finish in the men's 300 with a time of 35.85.
Action concludes on Saturday in Blacksburg.
