When Syracuse (8-8, 1-5 ACC) hosts No. 18 Georgia Tech (13-4, 4-2 ACC) on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Carrier Dome it will be the fourth nationally-ranked opponent for the Orange in the last five games. Pam Ward and Stephanie White will be on the call for the nationally-televised game on ACC Network.Â
'Cuse hopes to snap a four-game losing streak in ACC play. The Orange had a week to prepare for Thursday's game after last Sunday's road game at Virginia was postponed due to inclement weather. Syracuse last played at No. 3 Louisville on Jan. 13 and after a close battle the Cardinals pulled away with an 84-71 victory at the KFC Yum! Center. Syracuse is 8-2 at home this season with their two losses being in conference play to Notre Dame and No. 17 Duke. The Orange are averaging 75.8 points per game this season and shooting 42.7 percent from the field. Syracuse is the best free throw shooting team in the ACC and ranks 10th in the country making 78.6 percent of its free throws. All five Syracuse starters are scoring in double figures this season with Teisha Hyman's 14.9 ppg pacing the squad. Hyman leads the squad in multiple statistical categories including assists per game (4.4) and steals per game (2.4). Alaysia Styles is the leading rebounder for the Orange with 6.7 rpg and her .528 field goal percentage is a team-best.
Georgia Tech has had a roller coaster season that includes wins over No. 20 Georgia and No. 3 UConn while suffering close losses to No. 3 Louisville, Auburn, Purdue and Miami. All four of the Yellow Jackets losses have been by a combined 12 points including three by one possession. Georgia Tech looks to bounce back after a 46-45 road loss at Miami on Sunday in Coral Gables, Fla. Four Yellow Jackets average double figures this season and Lorela Cubaj is averaging a double double with 10.1 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. It will be a homecoming for Syracuse alumna Digna Strautmane, a four-year starter for the Orange from 2017-21, who is using her fifth year of eligibility at Georgia Tech after earning both a bachelor's and master's degree from SU during her playing career. She's adding 8.7 points and 5.1 rebounds to Georgia Tech's lineup and has started in 12 of the Yellow Jackets' 17 games this season.Â
