Freshman Sarah Marchand tallied a goal and two assists in Syracuse's 3-0 win against RIT on Friday at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange scored two goals in the second period and added another in the third and senior goaltender Arielle DeSmet recorded her second shutout of the season. Marchand has a team-leading 13 assists on the season.
Â
Marchand gave the Orange (8-9-5 overall, 6-3 College Hockey America) a 1-0 lead when she followed a shot by Rayla Clemons and put in the rebound right in front of the goal. Junior Anna Leschyshyn started the play carrying the puck into the RIT zone on the right side and fed Clemons who was with her on the two-on-one.
Â
Two minutes later graduate student Jessica DiGirolamo made it a two-goal lead scored on a power play on a shot from between the circles after receiving a pass from Marchand.
Â
In the third period, senior Abby Moloughney scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season with 13:45 left in the game to make the score 3-0. Marchand set up the goal feeding Moloughney from behind the net on the left side of the goal. Moloughney fired a shot over the left shoulder of RIT goalie Sarah Coe into the top corner of the net.
Â
DeSmet had 29 saves in the game in her second shutout of the season.
Â
The Orange will play at RIT (0-22-1, 0-8-1 CHA) on Saturday in the second game of the home-and-home series. The game will be streamed on StretchTV.

50 YEARS OF SYRACUSE WOMEN'S ATHLETICS
Orange alumni, fans and friends are invited to share in a year-long celebration of 50 years of Syracuse University women's athletics. Events and special recognition of all female student-athletes who have donned the Block S to represent Syracuse University and the Athletics Department since 1971-72 will be held throughout the 2021-22 seasons. As we celebrate this history, we acknowledge those who have gone before us to set the standard we strive to achieve today so we can pave the way for the future. We reflect on the history of women in sport, admire their sacrifices, recognize their contributions and accomplishments, and honor their legacy.
