A pair of 'Cuse runners broke the vaunted four-minute mile barrier on Sunday at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational.
Senior Joe Dragon – who was competing unattached, but has outdoor eligibility remaining – finished in 3:59.19. Teammate Nathan Henderson (3:59.43) also broke the mark, as the duo finished eighth and ninth in the event, respectively. They were the fourth and fifth finishers among collegians in a field of 147 runners.
Brody Smith (4:05.22) took 15th overall, followed by Noah Beveridge (4:14.35) and Joey Eovaldi (4:14.89), as 'Cuse turned in a strong day in the mile at the event.
Senior JP Trojan also turned in a top performance on the day. His time of 13:49.04 in the 5000-meter run was good for third overall, but top among collegiate runners in the event. Alex Comerford was seventh in 14:10.62. Trojan's time is 26th nationally in the event this season and second in the ACC to date.
Jack Whetstone led all Orange runners in the 3000-meter run. He crossed the line in 8:17.09, which was 36th. Ethan Wechsler (8:19.17), Matthew Dragon (8:58.44) and Patrick Malone (9:11.35) also raced for the Orange.
The Orange return to action next week at the Dr. Sander Invitational in New York City.
