ORANGE UPDATE:
The Orange are 12-2-2 on the season and No. 4 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll. After last week's draw against NC State, Syracuse has clinched a share of the Atlantic Division title for the second time in program history. The 12 victories match the most in a season since 2016. A win on Friday night would represent the sixth win in Atlantic Coast Conference play, a single-season program record.
Syracuse finished the 2022 regular season with a 5-0-2 record on the road. It marks the first time in Coach McIntyre's tenure that 'Cuse finished a regular season with an undefeated road record. Virginia and Duke are the only other ACC programs with unblemished road records.
The Orange have a +23-goal difference, tied for first in the ACC with Wake Forest. If the regular season ended today, it would be the best regular season goal difference in the McIntyre era.
The defense, led by redshirt-senior goalkeeper Shealy, is one of the top units in the nation. 'Cuse has allowed nine goals, which ranks second in the ACC behind Duke. Nationally, Syracuse ranks sixth in goals against average (.562) and is tied for sixth in clean sheets (8).
Sophomore Nathan Opoku and Johnson are one of the best-attacking duos in the conference. Both forwards have 20 points, which is tied for second in the ACC. Opoku's eight goals rank third, while Johnson's seven are tied for fourth in the ACC. The Brampton, Ontario native is also tied for third in assists with six.
LAST TIME OUT:
Syracuse and NC State fought to a 1-1 draw. After a scoreless first half, the Wolfpack scored first with a strike from Noe Cabezas. The Orange didn't wait long to equalize, as the hosts scored an own goal just two minutes later.
'Cuse outshot the NC State 20-5 on the night, taking 13 corner kicks compared to the Wolfpack's one. Shealy finished with one save, as a Syracuse opponent scored an own goal for the second time this season.
SCOUTING THE EAGLES:
Boston College is 4-6-4 on the season with a 1-4-2 record in conference play. The Eagles are 0-4-1 on the road this season.
Head coach Bob Thompson is in his third season in Newton. He has a 12-16-7 record at the helm of the men's soccer program.
The Eagles put five past Endicott in a 5-1 victory on Monday night. Forward Stefan Sigurdarson recorded a hat trick, as Boston College outshot the visitors 30-1.
Sigurdarson is one of the top strikers in the ACC. The Icelandic forward leads the conference in goals (12) and points (25).
THE SERIES:
Friday's match represents the 34th meeting between Syracuse and Boston College. The Eagles lead the series, 19-12-2. The two schools first met in 1982 and the Orange haven't won a match in the series since 2016.
Boston College won 1-0 in the last meeting in 2021. Eagles' midfielder Kristofer Konraddson secured all three points in the 84th minute. Syracuse took 11 corners but only registered two shots on target.
UP NEXT:
The ACC Tournament awaits the Orange after the regular season finale. The Orange have a first-round bye after clinching a share of the Atlantic Division. Syracuse will host an opponent in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday, November 6.
Start time and viewing information will be available later.
