
No. 9 Syracuse Falls at No. 12 Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 9 Syracuse University field hockey dropped its final contest of the regular season, falling 4-0 at No. 12 Wake Forest Friday evening at Kentner Stadium.
The Orange (14-4, 3-3 ACC) had a last-second chance from Quirine Comans, but the effort hit the goalpost. Charlotte de Vries and SJ Quigley took two shots apiece while Brooke Borzymowski made four saves in her 60 minutes.
Wake Forest (13-4, 4-1 ACC) scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game while getting four goals from four sources. Meike Lanckhor added two assists for the Demon Deacons. Tori Glaister made two saves.
How it Happened
The Orange (14-4, 3-3 ACC) had a last-second chance from Quirine Comans, but the effort hit the goalpost. Charlotte de Vries and SJ Quigley took two shots apiece while Brooke Borzymowski made four saves in her 60 minutes.

How it Happened
- Wake struck first on the first corner of the game as Sky Caron finished an insertion from Grace Delmotte and a stick-stop from Lanckohr. Two minutes later, the homeside went up 2-0 on a tipped long-range shot initiated by Lanckohr before Anna Gwiazdzinski got a stick on it.
- Late in the opening quarter, the Orange had two scoring chances, the first from Eefke van den Nieuwenhof that was credited as a defensive save for Lee Ann Gordon, followed immediately by a shot from Quigley that was blocked with three minutes left in the quarter.
- Both teams settled in the second quarter as Wake's Nat Friedman got the lone shot of the period two and a half minutes in. Borzymowski made the stop for a 2-0 deficit at halftime.
- Out of the break, Wake Forest had two quick penalty corners, both inserted by Delmotte. Lanckohr was stopped by Borzymowski on the first before Brooke McCusker scored on the second from Delmotte and Friedman.
- Late in the third, Syracuse had a corner chance sent in by Quigley but the ensuing de Vries shot was stopped at the net by Glaister.
- Ten minutes into the fourth quarter, de Vries took the first of three 'Cuse shots in the period on a chance that went high of the mark.
- With two and a half minutes left, Wake scored the final goal of the day from Immie Gillgrass with an Ashley Hart assist.
- In the final minute, Syracuse took two shots, one from Quigley and the second from Comans that hit the post with 12 seconds left on the clock.
- Shots were even throughout as Wake managed eight and the Orange took seven. Wake put all eight chances on goal with three 'Cuse chances on net.
- Wake took three corners while Syracuse earned a pair.
- Borzymowski made four saves in the game, including two in the final 15 minutes. Glaister stopped two shots with a defensive save backing her day.
- The Orange remain in North Carolina heading into the 2022 ACC Field Hockey Tournament.
- Action begins on Tuesday with three first-round games at 1 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
- Duke will serve as the host this season with all games at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. Seeding and game times will be announced by the league office on Saturday at the conclusion of the regular season.
