
Both Squads Post Top Finishes in Recent Seasons at NCAAs

The Syracuse men's cross country team turned in its best finish at the NCAA Championship since 2016, taking 12th, while the women had their best finish since 2015 with a 23rd-place finish, in Stillwater, Oklahoma on Saturday.
Sophomore Savannah Roark had a historic day for the 'Cuse women, becoming the first Orange All-American since Paige Stoner in 2017. She finished 23rd overall, which was the second-best individual finish in women's program history.
Nathan Lawler was the top men's finisher, finishing in 46th, completing the 10k race in 29:41.4. Paul O'Donnell was 12 spots behind Lawler as the team's second finisher. He finished in 29:50.3. 'Cuse's other three scoring spots were Nathan Henderson (81st, 30:04.9), Noah Carey (82nd, 30:04.9), and Sam Lawler (110th, 30:19.6). Assaf Harari (123rd) and Matthew Scrape (154th) were the Orange's sixth and seventh finishers.
The men finished with 340 points. Northern Arizona and Oklahoma State tied with 83 points apiece, but Northern Arizona was awarded the championship on tie-break procedure.
The SU women used a strong close to out-run their rank by five spots. Collectively as a team, they moved up 24 spots in the final 1.2k. Behind Roark, Abigail Spiers was the next-fastest 'Cuse competitor in 20:46.1 Her time was good for 124th. Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (139th/20:51.4), Eleanor Lawler (185th/21:12.6) and Ivy Gonzales (189th/21:14.5) rounded out the Orange scoring. Shona McCulloch (221st) and Olivia Joly (252nd) also raced as the team's sixth and seventh finishers.
The women collected 544 points as a team. NC State successfully defended their NCAA title with 114 points.
'Cuse will now turn the page to track, with indoor season starting in a few short weeks.
