
Hayles Betters PR To Continue Streak at Clemson

Syracuse kicked off a pair of meets at Clemson and Boston with numerous PRs on Friday.
At Clemson, Jaheem Hayles set a new PR in the 60-meter hurdles for the second week in a row, taking fifth in 7.73 seconds. Hayles – who came into the event ranked 14th nationally – bettered his time by 0.02 seconds, moving up a spot.
Teammates Naseem Smith (8.01), Isaiah Lewis (8.00) and Anthony Vazquez (8.02) also qualified for the semis, but only Hayles reached the finals. Lewis' time was a new PR.
In the women's 60-meter dash, Kahniya James was the Orange's top finisher in 7.51 seconds, taking 22nd overall. Kaleia Arrington (7.91) also raced. Sean Tucker was 28th in 6.90 seconds in the men's race, a new PR.
In the 400, Eunice Boateng led the way, finishing in 55.04, which was good for 19th. She was followed by Kennedy Tarley (57.70), Natalya Rodney (59.59) and Jana Riley (1:00.45). The event featured more than 70 competitors. James Nmah crossed the line in 50.92 seconds in the men's race, followed by Xayvion Perkins in 51.45.
Shaleah Colaire finished 22nd in the 60-meter hurdles after qualifying for the semifinals in a time of 8.49 seconds. Teammate CJ Fox was 44th.
In Boston, the distance runners turned in strong days. Annie Boos and Abigail Spiers were 15th and 16th in the women's 3000-meter runs with a pair of personal bests. Boos (9:22.07) bettered her collegiate best from her days at Cal, while Spiers (9:23.29) knocked 20 seconds off her previous PR. The places were impressive given the field featured nearly 200 runners.
Savannah Roark also turned in a solid performance, finishing in 9:37.88. Emma Eastman (9:45.68), Ellie Lawler (9:51.97), Reilly Zink (9:52.05), Syndey Nowicki (9:52.06), Olivia Joly (9:56.97), Justus Holden-Betts (9:58.78), Emily Lane (10:08.22) and Emily Nugent (10:26.18) also raced for 'Cuse.
Kirstyn Schecter took sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.27 seconds, ahead of Sheridan McGadden.
Sage Brooks raced in the women's mile, finishing with a mark of 4:51.68. Bethany Steiner (5:04.45), Caroline Kirby (5:10.76) and Bearett Tarris (5:26.42) weren't far behind.
Mariana McManus was the lone SU competitor in the women's 400, finishing third in her heat in 1:03.75.
Action for both meets continues on Saturday.
