
'Cuse Wins Third Straight, Faces Niagara Tomorrow

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse defeated Buffalo, 5-2, with singles victories from Viktoriya Kanapatskaya, Polina Kozyreva, Miyuka Kimoto, and Shiori Ito. The Orange took two of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point for the fifth time in six matches this spring. 'Cuse takes a 5-1 record into their non-conference finale with Niagara on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.
The duo of Kimoto and Kozyreva teamed up for their second win in as many attempts playing from the No. 1 doubles position, defeating Buffalo's Pia Schwarz and Nikoleta Antoniou, 6-4. Kanapatskaya and Ines Fonte fell for the first time in spring doubles competition, but Ito and Sofya Treshcheva clinched the doubles point with a convincing 6-0 victory.
Kanapatskaya made her return to the No. 1 singles spot and handled Schwarz with ease, 6-0, 6-1. Kozyreva continued her impressive run to start the spring, taking her sixth consecutive singles match in straight sets. Ito matches Kozyreva's 6-0 record with six victories of her own to begin her Orange spring career.Â
Syracuse takes on the Niagara Purple Eagles tomorrow to wrap up the non-conference slate. The Orange have won all four of their meetings with Niagara by the same score of 7-0. Boston College travels to meet Syracuse in both programs' ACC opener on Saturday, Feb. 19.
