Top-Seed Orange Set to Host CHA Championship

The 2022 College Hockey America regular season champions Syracuse Orange will host the 2022 CHA Championship from February 24 to 26 at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The #1 seed Orange will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between fourth-seed Lindenwood and fifth-seed RIT on Friday at 12 pm. The game will be streamed on Stretch.

Tickets for the 2022 CHA Championship can be purchased on game days at the Tennity Ice Pavilion box office. Daily tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students. Parking is available, free of charge, in the lots around Tennity Ice Pavilion, including the Softball Stadium Lot, 621 North Skytop Lot and 621 South Skytop Lot.

Orange Season in Review
Syracuse achieved multiple milestones in 2021-22. The Orange won the College Hockey America regular season championship for the first time in the 14-year history of the program, finishing with an 11-4-1 league record, and achieved the program's 200th victory with a 4-3 win against Lindenwood on January 29. It was also the 200th Syracuse win for head coach Paul Flanagan, who started the Orange program in 2008-09. Flanagan has 432 career victories at Syracuse (14 years) and St. Lawrence (nine years).

Syracuse posted a 7-1-2 record in the second half of the season, including a 5-0-1 record in January, en route to the CHA regular season title. It marked the first time in program history that a team has not lost in the first month of the calendar year.

The Orange kicked off 2022 winning the Battle at the Burgh, beating Boston University in a shootout and St. Cloud State, 5-2, in the championship game. Senior defenseman Shelby Calof scored the only goal in the shootout to propel the Orange to the championship game. Goaltender Arielle DeSmet turned away all four Boston University shootout attempts and had 32 saves in the game and recorded 31 saves in the championship tilt. She earned Battle at the Burgh Most Valuable Player and All-Tournament Team honors, while Calof, forward Abby Moloughney and defenseman Jessica DiGirolamo garnered All-Tournament Team honors.

In January, Syracuse also swept their series against RIT and Lindenwood. In February, Syracuse posted a win and a tie at Penn State and split the series at Mercyhurst, including the win that clinched the regular season championship on February 12.

Several Orange also set individual program records. Moloughney became the fourth player in program history to record 100 career points (42 goals and 58 assists). The senior ranks third on the career goals record list and is tied for fourth in career assists. She also owns the Syracuse record for games with three-or-more points (nine) and multi-point games (28). Her 14 career power play goals rank fourth in SU history.

DiGirolamo established school records for points (92), goals (33) and assists (59) by a defenseman. She is tied for second on the Orange career assists record list and tied for seventh on the all-time points record list.

DeSmet recorded a career-best 54 saves against Penn State, which ranks second on the Orange single-game record ledger, and her two shutouts is tied for sixth on the 'Cuse single-game record list.

Forwards Lauren Bellefontaine and Victoria Klimek have also etched their names in the record book. Bellefontaine has 80 career points, which ties for 12th in program history, and her 51 assists ties for eighth. Klimek, who is one of three Syracuse players to record two career hat tricks and one of 10 Syracuse players to score three goals in one game, ranks 18th on the Orange career scoring record list with 70 points (37 goals and 33 assists).

Orange skaters spread the scoring around this season, including nine with 10 points or more. Freshmen Sarah Marchand and Madison Primeau are included in that group. Marchand is Syracuse's second leading scorer with 24 points and her 15 assists ties for the team lead, while Primeau's 10 goals is tied for second on the squad.
