Hall of Fame coaches Jim Boeheim from Syracuse and Duke's Mike Krzyzewski will guide their teams against each other for the last time in the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 26, in the Dome. Syracuse (15-13, 9-8 ACC) and #7/6 (24-4, 14-3 ACC) are scheduled to square off at 6:00 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPN.
Krzyzewski has announced his intention to retire at the completion of the 2021-22 season.
Krzyzewski and Boeheim enter the contest ranked first and second, respectively, in coaching victories at the Division I level.Â
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange look to bounce back from their recent 79-69 loss at Notre Dame on Wednesday. Syracuse has won six of its last eight contests.
The Blue Devils will try to earn their sixth consecutive win on Saturday's. Duke won at Virginia on Wednesday, 65-61.
THE SYRACUSE-DUKE SERIES
Duke leads the 18-game series between the two teams, 12-6. The Blue Devils won their most recent Orange encounter on Jan. 22 at Cameron Indoor Stadium, 79-59.
ORANGE TO WATCH
Jimmy Boeheim has posted strong back-to-back outings for Syracuse. He's contributed 15 first-half points in each of the last two games. He finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds in a win against Georgia Tech on Feb. 21 and had a season-high 27 points at Notre Dame on Feb. 23.
Buddy Boeheim remains Syracuse's top scorer (19.0 ppg.), and has scored in double figures in the last nine consecutive contests. Joseph Girard III leads the ACC in free-throw percentage (.897) and 3-point field goal percentage (.418).Â
CONTAINING BANCHEROÂ
Duke's first-year standout Paolo Banchero became the first Duke player since 2015 to earn three straight ACC Freshman of the Week honors (Jan. 17, Jan. 24, Jan. 31). The freshman averages a squad-best 16.6 ppg and 8.3 rpg.
