CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- No. 67 Syracuse fell to No. 9 Virginia in Charlottesville on Sunday afternoon. The Orange are now 6-3 after their second ACC loss. They return home to face Georgia Tech (Mar. 4) and Clemson (Mar. 6) next weekend.Â
The doubles matches did not go the Orange's way as they dropped the doubles point for just the second time this season. Ranked Cavaliers players Emma Navarro and Natasha Subhash took down SU's top two singles players Viktoriya Kanapatskaya and Miyuka Kimotorespectively, in singles play. The loss snapped Kanapatskaya's five-match singles winning streak. Polina Kozyreva could not be stopped as she won her ninth consecutive match due to Virginia's Sofia Munera retiring. Kozyreva picked up her second win out of the No. 3 singles spot this spring.Â
Syracuse takes on Georgia Tech (4-4, 1-1) at Drumlins this Friday. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a road victory in Tallahassee as they took down No. 44 Florida State, 4-3. Clemson (6-2, 0-0)Â comes to town on Sunday.Â
At this time, fans are welcome at the Drumlins Tennis Club for Orange home matches. Admission is free. Fans must wear a mask at all times and follow Syracuse University protocols, which can be found at Syracuse/edu/staysafe.
