
Orange Lose 2-1 in Ninth Inning to Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, GA.- Syracuse lost their first extra innings game to Georgia Tech in the ninth inning by a score of 2-1. The Orange held the Yellow Jackets, who have yet to be shut out all season, scoreless until the bottom of the seventh.Â
Syracuse falls to 17-12 overall, 1-8 ACC while Georgia Tech improves to 23-9 overall, 5-7 ACC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A lead wasn't claimed until the top of the fifth inning when Olivia Pess worked herself onto second base and into scoring position for Laila Alves. Alves struck a single to center field to score Pess from second and take a 1-0 lead.

Despite the Yellow Jackets working a second and third situation for themselves on offense in the bottom of the sixth inning, combined efforts from Lindsey Hendrix and Ariana Adams got the Orange out with no run being scored.
A single to center from Georgia Tech's Auburn Dupree tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh sending the game into extra innings.

After a quiet eighth inning, the Yellow Jackets strung together a hit and a walk in the bottom of the ninth. Kennedy Cowden took the opportunity to score on a wild pitch to end the game with a 2-1 Georgia Tech victory.
OF NOTE
The Orange return to Syracuse to host Pittsburgh in their season home opener next weekend. They will play on Friday, April 1 at 3:00 pm., Saturday at 1:00 pm. and Sunday at 12:00 pm.
