THE HOBART SERIES
- This will be the 107th meeting between the two programs, with Syracuse controlling a 78-26-2 record all-time against Hobart.
- The Orange have won seven games in a row against the Statesmen.
- The two teams first met on April 29, 1916, in what was the first lacrosse game in Syracuse's program history. Hobart won the game 9-1.
- Last year (2021) was the first year that the two teams did not meet since 1985 (although to make up for it they, had played twice in 1984 in a home and home and founded the Kraus-Simmons Trophy the following year). The last season prior to 2021 that the programs did not meet without playing twice in a subsequent year was 1961.
- This game is the third-most played game in lacrosse history, trailing just Hobart/Cornell (139) and Johns Hopkins vs. Maryland (122).
THE KRAUS SIMMONS TROPHY
- The Kraus-Simmons Trophy has been presented to the victor in this annual showdown every year since 1986. The trophy is named for legendary Orange head coach Roy Simmons Sr., who coached at SU from 1931-70 and won 253 career games, and Babe Kraus who compiled 208 victories at Hobart. After Simmons Sr. his son Roy Simmons Jr. led the program from 1971-1998 winning six NCAA Championships. Roy Simmons III remains on staff as the current director of operations. A member of the three generations of the Simmons family has been part of the program for 92 consecutive seasons (94 in total counting Simmons Sr.'s playing days) and been part of 839 victories - more than all-but three programs in NCAA Division I history.
- Syracuse has won 32 of the 35 meetings since the trophy has been awarded, including 20 in a row from 1987 to 2005. The Statesmen gained possession of the trophy in 1986, 2006 and 2013. Otherwise it has resided in Syracuse.
- The Orange retained the trophy from 2020 by beating the Statesmen 21-13.
- Due to space limitations on the prior trophy, in 2019 a new base addition was installed and the trophy was updated. There are now commemorative inscriptions for Kraus and Simmons on each side, with additional space to list the winners. The cup at the top remains the original.
AGAINST THE NEC
- The Orange hold a 79-27-2 record against current members of the Northeastern Conference.
- Hobart is the only member of the NEC that Syracuse plays on a regular basis. Syracuse has played the Statesmen every year since 1985 and hold a 77-26-2 record all-time against Hobart.
- The only other team from the NEC that Syracuse has played is Bryant. The two schools split the two games played. Both games, played in 2013 and 2014, were in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
STATE CHAMPS
- Syracuse has five games scheduled against in-state competition this season.
- Historically, Syracuse has dominated New York. Owning a combined 418-162-10 record against teams from New York.
A WIN AGAINST HOBART WOULD...
- Retain the Kraus-Simmons Trophy in Syracuse for the 33rd time in 37 attempts.
- Snap Syracuse's three-game losing skid and improve 'Cuse to 2-3 on the year.
- Be the program's 926th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
- Improve 'Cuse to 256-45 in the Dome all-time.
