THE GAME
- Syracuse plays its final road game of the 2022 season on Saturday at North Carolina.
- The game will be broadcast on ESPNU with Chris Cotter (PxP) and Paul Carcaterra '97 (analyst) on the call. Brian Higgins '04 (PxP) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com, The Varsity App and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
THE CAROLINA SERIES
- This is the 29th meeting between 'Cuse and Carolina, and first meeting at UNC since the 2019 ACC Tournament.
- Syracuse owns the all-time series 18-10 and has won six of the last nine matchups. UNC was victorious last time they met in North Carolina though, defeating the Orange in the first round of the 2019 ACC Tournament.
- Four of the last six meetings have been one-goal thrillers. In 2017, Paolo Ciferri knotted the game late so Sergio Salcido could win it in OT at Fetzer Field in the 2017 regular season. The teams met in the 2017 ACC Tournament as well, where Carolina led by nine at halftime before the Orange came roaring back with eight unanswered in the third quarter, but fell short 16-15. Last time Carolina visited the Dome in 2018, Brendan Curry scored twice in the final 1:34 to erase a two-goal deficit and then assisted Brendan Bomberry's overtime winner. Finally, after a lackluster regular season meeting in 2019 when the Orange won by three, Carolina defeated the Orange in the ACC first round 11-10 at Dorrance Field.
- Last season was the opposite, as Carolina rolled the Orange in the Dome, 21-9.
CURRY CHASING MIDDIE RECORDS
- Gary Gait's 192 career goals out of the midfield is a record unlikely to ever be topped at Syracuse, but Brendan Curry is quickly climbing the goal record books behind him among midfielders.
- Curry needs 13 more goals in his career to become one-of-five midfielders in program history to cross the century mark. The other four are in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
- The top-10 has clearly distinguished themselves from the field, with Curry (87) moving past Dom Fin at 85 for ninth last time out. Curry's father, Todd, (93) is seventh among SU midfielders in goals.
KENNEDY RISING IN THE RANKS
- With 58 career caused turnovers, Brett Kennedy has now passed Nick Mellen (55) for fifth on the program's career caused turnovers list.
- He needs three more this season to tie Joel White (61) for fourth on the all-time list.
A WIN AGAINST CAROLINA WOULD...
- Improve Syracuse to 5-7 on the season and snap a three-game losing streak.
- Improve the Orange to 2-2 in ACC play this season.
- Be the program's 929th victory, second all-time behind Johns Hopkins.
