
Orange Upset #35 Seminoles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Sophomore Ines Fonte recorded a three-set victory at No. 6 singles to secure a 4-3 victory for Syracuse at No. 35 Florida State on Sunday.
The Orange (9-10, 3-9) took the doubles point with victories by #40 Miyuka Kimoto and Polina Kozyreva at No. 1 and #86 Shiori Iot and Sofya Treshcheva at No. 2.
Kimoto and Shiori gave Syracuse a 3-0 lead with victories at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively, before Florida State (13-8, 6-6) rallied for three consecutive victories to even the score with the No. 6 singles match remaining.
Fonte won the first set in a tie breaker, but lost the second set to Olympe Lancelot. Fonte came back in the third, again winning the tie breaker to give the Orange the victory.
"It was a terrific fight and effort to earn a tough road win on the host's senior day," Syracuse head coach Younes Limam said. "We are very proud of how much grit and perseverance our team showed today. This was a total team effort and gives us momentum heading into our ACC Tournament, playing against a tough Wake Forest team."
