PITTSBURGH, PA.- Syracuse defeated Louisville 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament. This win marks the first conference tournament victory for the Orange since joining the ACC in 2013.Â
Syracuse improves its record to 26-20 overall, 8-15 ACC while Louisville was handed its seventh shutout of the year to conclude the season at 27-25 overall, 10-15 ACC.
Senior pitcher Ariana Adams pitched six of the seven innings in the circle for the Orange, posting a no hitter until the bottom of the sixth inning.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither team managed a hit through the first two innings. Center fielder Paris Woods broke the silence with her bunt single in the top of the third inning. She stole second base to put herself in scoring position for Angel Jasso at the plate. Jasso nailed a home run to deep center field to give the Orange the 2-0 lead.
Adams on the mound, with the help of her defense, only faced three batters in each of the next three innings. She sent Louisville hitters back to the dugout in one-two-three fashion.
The Cardinals broke through on offense in the bottom of the sixth with a single to left field off the bat of Jenna Servi but were unable to make use of it.Â
Louisville threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning, capitalizing on a Syracuse error and a walk. Kaia Oliver came in the circle for the second batter of the inning to work out of a first and third situation and clench the 2-0 shutout for Syracuse.Â
OF NOTE
The Orange take on Virginia Tech, ranked first in the ACC and second nationally, in the quarterfinals tomorrow. The game will begin at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 12 and will be televised on the ACC Network.
