Orange Have Strong Showing at Eastern Sprints

The Syracuse men's rowing team earned sixth-place finishes in the varsity eight and third varsity eight at Eastern Sprints on Sunday afternoon while the 2V8 won the Petite Final and the 4V8 was third in its respective Petite Final. The Orange now prepare for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Regatta June 3-5 in West Windsor, N.J.Â
The 4V8 finished fifth in Heat 2 to earn a spot in the Petite Finals on Sunday where the Orange crew crossed the line in 6:19.7 behind Boston University (6:14.8) and Cornell (6:17.1) for a third-place finish.Â
Syracuse's third varsity eight was third in its morning heat to advance to the Grand Final where they placed sixth behind Yale (5:53.4), Brown (5:56.2), Harvard (5:56.9), Dartmouth (6:01.1) and Princeton (6:02.1). The Orange finished in 6:04.1 improving by over a second from its morning race (6:05.6).Â
The 2V8 placed third in its morning heat finishing in 6:06.3 advancing to the Petite Final. In the afternoon, 'Cuse won the Petite Final in 6:09.5 ahead of crews from Navy, Northeastern, Cornell, Wisconsin and Penn.Â
In the morning varsity eight heats, the Orange finished second in Heat 3 behind Dartmouth while beating out Navy, Boston U and Holy Cross. The final race of the day for Syracuse saw the #7 varsity eight place sixth in the Grand Final behind Yale (5:58.0), Brown (5:59.3), Dartmouth (6:01.3), Princeton (6:02.9) and Harvard (6:05.0) and clocking in at 6:06.6.
The 4V8 finished fifth in Heat 2 to earn a spot in the Petite Finals on Sunday where the Orange crew crossed the line in 6:19.7 behind Boston University (6:14.8) and Cornell (6:17.1) for a third-place finish.Â
