Syracuse University landed five oarsmen on the 2022 IRCA Scholar Athlete list, announced Monday by the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association (IRCA).Â
Arnaud Buard, Finn Conlon, Reilly Eagan, Nicholas Kohl and Connor Toomey were among 525 rowers and coxswains who met the criteria set by the IRCA Awards & Polling Committee, which was an increase of 30 percent over last year's 403 honorees.Â
In order to be named a scholar athlete by the IRCA, rowers and coxswains must compete for an IRCA member institution, be in their second year or more of eligibility and have raced in one of their school's top-three boats during the current season or at the 2022 IRA Championship. Academically, athletes must have, at least, a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) through the fall semester.Â
Buard, one of Syracuse's two captains, is a bioengineering major in Syracuse's College of Engineering and Computer Science. Buard  is a mainstay in the Orange varsity eight and sat stroke seat in the IRA crew that placed fifth in the nation.Â
Conlon, a senior fom Chicago, Ill., sat six-seat in Syracuse's 3V8+ at this year's IRA Regatta. He helped guide the Orange to a top-10 finish placing fourth in the Petite Final.Â
Eagan is enrolled in Syracuse's Whitman School of Management. The Buffalo, N.Y., native was also a member of the 3V8+ that placed top-10 at the IRA Regatta, where he sat four seat.Â
Kohl is majoring in environmental engineering in Syracuse's College of Engineering and Computer Science. As a member of the varsity eight crew, he helped Syracuse to it's second-straight top-five finish at the IRA Regatta, where he sat six seat.Â
Toomey is a sophomore sports management major in Syracuse's Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics. Toomey earned a spot in the 2V8+ during the season and helped lead Syracuse to place eighth in the nation after a second-place finish in the Petite Final at the 2022 IRA Championship.Â
