Another road trip and another Sunday at J.S. Coyne Stadium is on tap for the No. 11 Syracuse field hockey program. The Orange resume ACC action on Friday with a clash at No. 10 Virginia followed by yet another Ivy League foe in Dartmouth on Sunday at home.
From the Start
- It's another split weekend for the Syracuse field hockey team as the Orange continue ACC play at #9 Virginia on Friday before returning to J.S. Coyne Stadium for a Sunday showdown against Dartmouth.
- The Orange went 2-0 last weekend, rolling past #18 Duke in the ACC opener before enduring a defensive battle with Hofstra for a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon.
- Syracuse is 31-28 all-time in the ACC, all under 16th year head coach Ange Bradley.
- After spending the first half of the season on the road nearly every weekend, the Orange are set for six home games in the balance of the 2022 regular season.
- Sunday's game against Dartmouth with be the third of four games against Ivy League opponents this season.
In the National Rankings
- Syracuse was ranked 11th in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Coaches Poll, picking up 684 points, up from last week's 673 points.
- Northwestern was ranked first with 1,210 points and 37 first-place nods while North Carolina was second with 1,176 points and the outstanding 12 first-place votes. Maryland (1,084), Louisville (1005) and Iowa (981) rounded out the top five.
- Nine 2022 opponent were among the top 25 teams this week, according to the NFHCA coaches: No. 2 North Carolina (Oct. 14), No. 4 Louisville (Oct. 21), No. 7 Princeton (L, 1-5), No. 10 Virginia (Sept. 23), No. 15 Wake Forest (Oct. 28), No. 18 Boston College (Sept. 30), No. 19 Rutgers (Oct. 23), No. 20 Duke (W, 5-1), No. 21 James Madison (Oct. 3).
- All seven ACC member institutions were ranked inside the top 25, including three in the top 10 (UNC, Louisville, Virginia).
- As of this week, only three remaining opponents were not inside the top 25 for the Sept. 13 poll, according to the Division I head coaches.
Quick Strikes
- Bringing a shark mentality to the pitch, Syracuse is the quickest-striking team in the ACC.
- The Orange have racked 14 goals in the first five minutes of a quarter this season.
- Syracuse does its fastest work in the third quarter, scoring five times immediately after the break.
- The Orange have scored four times in the first five minutes of the first quarter.
- Nearly half of Syracuse's 32 goals this season have come in the first five minutes of a quarter. Syracuse has only allowed four goals in the first five minutes of a period in 2022.
- UNC is second in the ACC with 12 quick-strike goals. The Orange and the Tar  Heels are the only teams in the ACC with double-digit quick strike goals.
Bradley vs. Ranked Opponents
- For a third-straight weekend, the Orange will take on an opponent ranked in the NFHCA Coaches Poll as Syracuse continues ACC play on Friday at No. 10 Virginia.
- Now in her 16th year at the helm, head coach Ange Bradley has coached against ranked opponents 170 times, winning 105 of those contests, a 61.8 winning percentage.

Williamson's #9 Jersey to Be Retired
- Former Syracuse field hockey standout Julie Williamson's #9 jersey will be retired on Oct. 9 prior to the 2 p.m. match at J.S. Coyne Stadium against Cornell.
- Williamson is the first field hockey student-athlete to have a jersey retired.
- During her career (1991-94), Williamson helped lead Syracuse to its first-ever NCAA Tournament (1993) after capturing the BIG EAST title.Â
- Her Orange teams gathered a 52-20-7 mark in that span.
- She was the first three-time NFCHA All-American, a four-time All-Region pick. She graduated as the all-time points leader and still ranks seventh.
- Williamson was the first-ever Orange player selected to play for the USWNT, scoring against France for her first international goal on July 21, 1993.
