5 Things to Know: Syracuse at UConn
9/7/2022 10:04:00 PM | Football
Syracuse heads to UConn looking to continue its momentum after a 31-7 season-opening win in week 1. Here are five things to know about the matchup.
1. The Old BIG EAST
This will be the 12th meeting between the two Northeast squads, which met annually from 2004-12 as conference opponents in the BIG EAST. Saturday's latest installment of the series will kick off at 7 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
The Huskies lead the all-time series 6-5, but the Orange have won each of the last three meetings. In addition to Saturday's game, 'Cuse and UConn also have scheduled contests in 2025, 2026 and 2027.
2. Heisman Ahead of Future? Heisman
Star running back Sean Tucker moved from 20th to 14th on Syracuse's all-time rushing list with his 100-yard day against UConn in the season opener. He's now just 28 yards behind Kyle McIntosh for 13th in SU history, but the next name on the list is one of the all-time greats.
1961 Heisman Trophy winner Ernie Davis sits in 12th – 164 yards ahead of Tucker – heading into Saturday's game. Tucker has three career games with 170+ yards, so he'd need one of his most productive days ever to track down one of the program's most famed backs. But an average career day (124 yards) would put him within shouting distance.
3. Perfect in the Red Zone
Syracuse was perfect in the red zone on both sides of the ball in their season-opening victory over Louisville. The Orange converted all four trips into points (three touchdowns, one field goal), while stuffing the Cards on fourth down in Louisville's only trip inside the red zone all night.
4. Ball Hawks
After having just four interceptions all of last season, the Orange defense are halfway to that total through just one game after Garrett Williams and Derek McDonald had third quarter interceptions last week.
'Cuse had seven turnovers gained all of last season and had three (including a fumble recovery) in the opener.
5. Yes, You Can Still Buy Season Tickets
While one of Syracuse's thrilling seven-game home schedule may have passed, fans still have plenty of options to get on board for the remaining six Dome games this fall – including season tickets.
