
Orange Defeated At NC State

Host NC State (3-7-6, 2-3-3) scored on a first-half penalty kick and then added a late goal to defeat Syracuse (2-12-2, 0-7-1), 2-0, in Raleigh, N.C., on Thursday night.
A WOLFPACK PENALTY KICK
NC State earned the penalty kick just over 14 minutes into the contest when Hannah Jibril was fouled in the box. Syracuse goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch managed to get a hand on the attempt but Jibril's shot carried into the next for a 1-0, Wolfpack advantage.
The score held up for the remainder of the opening half. Syracuse outshot NC State during the first 45 minutes, 6-5, and had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. The Orange had their best opportunity late in the period when Raia James had an open look. Her drive skipped off the grass but was stopped by Wolfpack goalkeeper Olivia Pratapas.
A CLOSELY PLAYED SECOND HALF
Both squads had chances after the intermission. Erin Flurey tested Pratapas at the 67:31 mark with a long drive but Pratapas was able to secure the attempt. Vanderbosch helped keep the Orange within striking distance by coming up with big stop against Taylor Chism. With the clock winding down, NC State added an insurance goal by Annika Wohner with 3:36 remaining in the contest.
NOTEABLE NOTES:
Syracuse finishes its two-game trip to North Carolina by taking on the third-ranked Tar Heels on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Dorrance Field.
