Kimoto to Semifinals; Two Orange Duos to Quarterfinals

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's tennis team completed day two at the ITA Northeast Super Regionals on Saturday, hosted by Army. Miyuka Kimoto was victorious in her singles matchup to move on to the semifinals. Both Orange duos won each of their matches in the doubles event, pushing through to the quarterfinals.

In the singles event, Kimoto decisively won her quarterfinals matchup, defeating Erin Ha of Yale, 6-1, 6-2. Polina Kozyreva was defeated by Penn State's Esha Velga, 6-3, 6-4. Kimoto is set to face Velga in the semifinals tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 22 at 10 a.m. The finals match in the singles event will take place on Monday, Oct. 23.

The duo of Polina Kozyreva and Ines Fonte began doubles play for the Orange with a win over Dzhambazov/Pinedo from N.J. Institute of Technology, 6-2, 2-6, [10-4]. Viktoriya Kanapatskaya/Shiori Ito continued the success for the Orange, taking down Temple's Frasser Kawaratani/Christoforidou, 7-6, 6-3. Both 'Cuse duos will play in the quarterfinals tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m.
