TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Syracuse volleyball lost at Florida State on Sunday afternoon, 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-19). Syracuse (2-18, 0-10 ACC) got off to a slow start, allowing the Seminoles (15-7, 9-1 ACC) to take an early lead in the first frame, 7-1. Florida State went on to win the first set, 25-12.
"We knew we had a big challenge ahead of us coming into this weekend, both Miami and Florida State are in the top half of the conference and playing very well right now," said Head Coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam. "Miami was a tough matchup, they always play well at home. We had a tough start today against Florida State, but we were able to claw back into the match with a chance to win the second set. Overall, the feeling is positive coming out of this weekend. We just have to work on consistency and confidence."
The Orange kept pace with the Seminoles in the second set, tying the score early at 4-4. After a 10-1 run from Florida State, 'Cuse went on a 6-1 run powered by three consecutive aces from freshman Zharia Harris-Waddy, making the score 19-12 in favor of the Seminoles. The Orange strung together a five-point run including two aces from graduate Alyssa Bert late in the second frame to cut the Seminole lead to four, 21-18. A 6-2 'Cuse run capped off by an ace from Harris-Waddy put the set in reach for the Orange, 24-24. Florida State would take set two, 26-24.
'Cuse rode the momentum from the second set into the third, taking the lead early at 7-6 after an ace from freshman Mira Ledermueller. The Orange kept it close throughout the frame, but the Seminoles went on to win the set and match, 25-19.
