Orange Close Exhibition Slate With 86-61 Win

Five players scored in double digits and Syracuse closed out its exhibition schedule with an 86-61 victory against Division II College of Saint Rose on Wednesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.
HOW THE GAME WAS WON
After the visitors scored the opening basket, Syracuse tallied 21 of the next 25 points and never trailed again. Sophomore forward Chris Bell had eight points during the opening stretch for the Orange.Â
By halftime the Orange lead had swelled to 26 points, 54-28. Bell, who scored all of his 19 points in the first 20 minutes, was nine-of-nine from the free-throw line. Sophomore guard Judah Mintz was also in double digits at the intermission with 15 points.
SECOND-HALF STARS
Sophomores J.J. Starling and Justin Taylor stepped up following the break. Starling produced 10 points, while Taylor had five points and eight minutes over the final 20 minutes. The Golden Knights outscored the Orange by one in the second half, 33-32.
Syracuse's five starters finished in double figures, led by Mintz (20) and Bell (19). J.J. Starling added 14 points, junior center Naheem McLeod had 12 points and Taylor contributed a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Tonight's win was the 27th straight exhibition victory for Syracuse, a streak that extends back to the 2010-11 season.
- Syracuse was 30-of-38 (.789) from the foul line.
- Mintz had seven assists and zero turnovers.
- Five of McLeod's six baskets were dunks.
- The Orange outscored the Golden Knights 29-8 in points off turnovers.
- Mintz, Kyle Cuffe Jr. and Bell racked up three steals apiece.
- Freshman William Patterson saw his first collegiate action and produced two rebounds and two blocks in five minutes of work.
- ​​​​​​​Saint Rose was led Ata Turgut, who had 23 points and went four-for-six from behind the arc.
The Orange open the regular season on Monday, Nov. 6, against New Hampshire inside the JMA Wireless Dome. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and the matchup will stream live on ACCNX.Â
