Syracuse and first-year head coach Adrian Autry opens the regular season against New Hampshire inside the JMA Wireless Dome on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
Â
WELCOME, "RED"
Adrian "Red" Autry '94, who was a four-year starter at Syracuse as a player before returning to the program as an assistant coach, faces his first regular-season game at the helm of his alma mater. Autry was named to succeed Hall of Fame head coach Jim Boeheim, who retired following his 47th season in charge. Monday's game will be the first Syracuse opener without Boeheim as head coach since 1975.
SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange are prepped to kick off the regular season after taking two wins in exhibition games against Division II schools Daemen, 81-68, and College of Saint Rose, 86-61.
Â
The Wildcats completed the 2022-23 season with a .500 record, 15-15 (9-7 America East). New Hampshire concluded its campaign with a loss in the America East semifinals to UMass-Lowell, 75-64. It represented the program's deepest playoff run since 2017. Wildcat coach Nathan Davis is in his first year as head coach. He was a two-time, Patriot League Coach of the Year at Bucknell.
Â
THE SYRACUSE-NEW HAMPSHIRE SERIES
Monday's matchup between the Orange and the Wildcats marks the first time the two programs have met on the hardwood.
Â
PRESEASON LEADERS
Syracuse had seven players average double-digit scoring in the exhibition game portion of the season. Sophomore guard Judah Mintz, who had 20 points in his lone showing against Saint Rose, had the top mark. Sophmores J.J. Starling (12.0), Chris Bell (11.0), Justin Taylor (11.0) and Maliq Brown (10.0), made the list, as did juniors Benny Williams (11.0) and Naheem McLeod (10.0). Taylor, who had a double-double versus Saint Rose (10 points, 12 rebounds), averaged a squad-best 7.5 boards over the two games.
Â
'CUSE FANS CAN VOTE MINTZ FOR COUSYÂ AWARD
Mintz is one of 20 watch-list candidates for the 2024 Bob Cousy Award, which is annually presented to the top point guard in Division I men's basketball. Mintz was also named to the Preseason All-ACC Second Team by a select media panel. In late January, the watch list of 20 players for the Cousy Award will be narrowed to 10, and then in late February, to just 5. In March, the five finalists will be presented to Cousy and the Hall of Fame's selection committee, where a winner will be selected.
Orange fans are encouraged to participate in three rounds of Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, on hoophallawards.com.

This year's Syracuse squad is tied for 16th in Division I for the youngest average age of all scholarship players at 20.40 years. Virginia Military Institute tops the list with an average age of 19.1. The Orange have the lowest average among ACC schools.
