ORANGE TRAVEL TO GEORGIA TECH FOR FINAL ROAD CONTEST
• Syracuse makes a rare trip to Atlanta to face Georgia Tech on Saturday. It will be the Orange's final road contest of the 2023 regular season.
• The game will air on ACC Network, with Wes Durham (PxP), Tim Hasselbeck (analyst) and Taylor Tannebaum (reporter) on the call.Â
• The Orange will try to become bowl eligible for the second-straight year. It would be the first time Syracuse has gone to a bowl game in back-to-back seasons since 2012 and 2013.
SEE THE ORANGE RUN
• Syracuse rushed for a season-high 392 yards in its victory against Pittsburgh.
• It's the seventh-highest, single-game total in the FBS this season and the most rushing yards for an ACC squad in 2023.
• The Orange's ground attack produced their most rushing yards since the 1996 Liberty Bowl (396 yards).Â
• Syracuse ran 74 plays in the victory over the Panthers, 65 of which were run plays. The 65 rushing attempts are the highest total for the Orange in an ACC game and the most for 'Cuse under the direction of head coach Dino Babers.
• Conversely, Syracuse attempted just nine passes, which are the fewest for the Orange in an ACC contest and the least amount of attempts since 2000 against Buffalo (9). The five completed passes tied for the fewest in an ACC game.Â
THREE'S COMPANY
• The Orange had three players rush for more than 100 yards against Pittsburgh, led by TE Dan Villari's career high 154 yards. QB Garrett Shrader finished with 105, while RB LeQuint Allen Jr. had 102 yards.
• It marked the first time since 1997 that Syracuse had three 100-yard rushers in the same game. That year, Kyle McIntosh (136), Dee Brown (117) and Donovan McNabb (100) accomplished the feat against Miami.
• Saturday's game marked the second time this season that a non quarterback or running back led an ACC team in rushing this season (NC State WR KC Concepcion vs. Clemson) and the third time in the FBS this season (Hawaii P Matthew Shipley vs. San Jose State).
WAX ON, WAX OFF
• LB Marlowe Wax emerged as a leader on Syracuse's defense last season.
• He is in sole possession of seventh on Syracuse's career leader list for tackles for loss ledger with 35.5.
• He forced his third fumble of the season against Clemson, giving him seven in his career. That total ties for fourth on Syracuse's career leader list.Â
• Wax took over the team lead in tackles with a career-high 14 at Virginia Tech. He now has 83 this season.Â
• His 5.5 solo tackles per game rank second in the ACC and ninth in the nation.
• Wax forced two fumbles, had an interception that he returned for 14 yards and broke up a pass against Purdue.
• He became the first member of the Orange to force two fumbles and record an interception in a game since Dave Rebar in 1994 against Rutgers.
• He entered 2023 on the Bednarik, Butkus and Lombardi Award watch lists.
VILLARI DOES IT ALL
• TE Dan Villari led Syracuse on the ground and through the air in its victory against Pittsburgh.Â
• He set the school record for most rushing yards by a tight end with a career-high 154 yards. His 17 carries were also a career high.
• The 154 yards rank 11th on the 2023 ACC single-game leader list.
• Villari also threw the ball five times. He completed three of those passes for 12 yards.
• Villari converted to tight end from quarterback prior to the 2022 season. He has recorded career highs in receptions (19) and receiving yards (167) this season.
SERIES HISTORY
• Syracuse and Georgia Tech will meet for the fifth time when they take the field on Saturday.
• The Yellow Jackets have won three of the four previous contests between the two teams, including the only game played in Atlanta.
• Georgia Tech is one of the teams the Orange have faced the least since joining the ACC. Syracuse has played Miami just once and taken on the Yellow Jackets and Virginia twice.
• The first two meetings between the squads were played at neutral sites. The first took place in the 2001 Kickoff Classic in Giants Stadium. The second was a showdown in the 2004 Champs Sports Bowl in Orlando.
A WIN WOULD …Â
• Improve Dino Babers' record to 42-54 as head coach of the Orange.
• Make Syracuse bowl eligible for the second-straight year.
• Give Syracuse back-to-back bowl trips for the first time since 2012-13 and first time under a sitting head coach since 1998-99.
• Give Syracuse its 754th all-time victory (includes 11 wins from 2004-06 that were vacated by the NCAA). The Orange currently rank 21st on the FBS ledger of winningest programs. Syracuse is one of 34 FBS schools to have accumulated 700+ wins.
