SETTING THE STAGE
The Orange come into the game after staging a 24-point resurgence, the second largest comeback win in ACC history, against long-time rival Colgate at home, 79-75. Sophomore guard Chris Bell scored 15 of his career-best 25 points after the intermission to lead the Orange offense. Syracuse is looking to extend its current three-game winning streak.

The Volunteers started their 2023-24 season strong, winning their first three games with their most recent victory coming against Wofford, 82-61. Dalton Knecht led the scoring for Tennessee with 18 points, Jordan Gainey came off the bench to score 16 points.

THE SYRACUSE-TENNESSEE SERIES
Syracuse and Tennessee have evenly split six pairings over the years. The last matchup against the Vols was on Jan. 19, 2002, and Tennessee emerged victorious, 66-62. The series extends back to the 1972-73 season. The last time the Orange defeated the Volunteers was the season opener of 1993-94, where #20 Syracuse bested Tennessee, 98-65.Â

In the historic victory versus Colgate, the Orange scored 49 of its 79 points in the second half. After allowing eight Raider three-pointers in the first half, Syracuse held them to just one in the last 20 minutes. Sophomore guard Judah Mintz scored 17 of his 23 points in the second half, his third consecutive performance with 20 or more points. Sophomore guard J.J. Starling led the team with seven boards, passing four assists and tossing in 13 points.

Mintz leads the pack in scoring, averaging 23.0 points per game. Sophomore guard Justin Taylor (11.0 ppg.) is shooting .429 percent from three-point range this season. Sophomore guard Quadir Copeland is averaging a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game. Bell (14.0 ppg.) and sophomore guard J.J. Starling (13.3 ppg.) round out the performers averaging double-figure points.

SYRACUSE IN THE MAUI JIM MAUI INVITATIONAL
The Orange have an unsullied 9-0 record in the Maui Jim Maui Invitational. Syracuse captured the invite crown in all three of its previous visits in 1990, 1998 and 2013.

In the program's first appearance at the event, in 1990, Syracuse defeated Toledo, Ohio State and Indiana. The Orange returned in 1998 and disposed of Chaminade, Michigan and Indiana. Syracuse's most recent visit was in 2013, where Coach Jim Boeheim's club won against Minnesota, California and Baylor.

Mintz is one of 20 watch-list candidates for the 2024 Bob Cousy Award, which is annually presented to the top point guard in Division I men's basketball. Orange followers are encouraged to participate in three rounds of Fan Voting, presented by Dell Technologies, on hoophallawards.com.

Mintz is also on the watch list for the Naismith Trophy and John R. Wooden Award. Each list in comprised of 50 student-athletes. The lists for each award will be narrowed throughout the year, and winners of the awards will be announced later in the season.
