
Fourth Quarter Comeback Helps 'Cuse Defeat Cornell

Dyaisha Fair scored a team-leading 24 points as Syracuse came back from a 14-point deficit to win against in-state foe Cornell, 78-71. With her performance tonight, Fair moved into the top 25Â in Division I career scoring. She now has 2,883 points over her collegiate career, ranking second in active career leaders.

Junior Georgia Woolley scored a season-best 23 points, including four 3-pointers. The Orange improve to 9-1 overall and extend their winning streak to six games. Syracuse has won all six of its games in the JMA Wireless Dome so far this season, and have now won 25 consecutive nonconference games at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With the Big Red ahead 63-59 with 4:37 to play, the Orange put on an eight-point run, including five points from Fair, to take a 65-63 advantage. The edge was Syracuse's first lead since it led 14-13 in the first quarter. Syracuse extended the margin to 72-67 after 3-pointers from Alaina Rice and Georgia Woolley.

FINISH STRONG
In the final 10 minutes, the Orange outscored the Big Red by a 29-to-17 margin. Syracuse went 14-for-16 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, including 13-for-14 from Fair. 'Cuse scored 13 points off Cornell turnovers and 10 points off fastbreaks in the second half.
After shooting .333 percent from the field in the first half, Syracuse went 8-for-15 (.533 percent) from the field in the third quarter and 6-for-15 (.400) in the fourth. The Orange made three-of-six from 3-point range in the fourth period to help propel the comeback.

The Orange logged 10 steals and five blocks in the contest, forcing 17 Cornell turnovers. Fair led the team in steals with four, her highest mark this season. Syracuse forced seven turnovers and had four steals in the fourth quarter comeback effort. 'Cuse lost the rebound battle, 40-36, but out-rebounded Cornell in the second half, 20-17. Â

Georgia Woolley scored eight points in the first quarter and seven points in the third. She shot 2-for-3 from 3-point range in the first 10 minutes. Her double-digit performance tonight marks the sixth time she has hit 10 or more points in seven appearances this season. She also was a defensive contributor, logging three of the team's 10 steals.
