Orange Welcome Thousands for Annual School Day
12/20/2023 5:14:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The 9-1 Syracuse women's basketball team hosts Saint Francis (1-10) on Thursday morning for SU's annual School Day game. The Orange anticipate thousands of local elementary and middle school students from schools all around the greater Syracuse area attending the 10:30 a.m. game at the JMA Wireless Dome. General admission tickets are FREE to the public and gates open at 9:30 a.m.Â
Fans unable to attend can stream the game live on ACC Network Extra (ACCNX) through ESPN with Ian Nicholas and Jesse Cook on the call.Â
The Orange ride a 25-game home nonconference win streak into Thursday's game with the Red Flash. It is just the third meeting between the two teams, all of which have been at The Dome, and the first since 2011. The Orange are 6-0 at home this season and escaped a scare on Monday night when 'Cuse needed a late comeback to feign off Cornell for a 78-71 win.
It was the first time since Felisha Legette-Jack was named head coach that the Orange erased a double digit deficit to win at home. Syracuse trailed by eight at halftime and the Big Red went up by as many as 14 points before Georgia Woolley (23 points) and Dyaisha Fair (24 points) willed 'Cuse to a win. It was a season-high for Woolley while Fair made a career-high 16 free throws (18 attempts) en route to moving to 21st on the all-time NCAA Division I women's basketball scoring list.Â
Saint Francis is coming off a tough road loss at Penn State, 119-43. Kendall Carruthers leads the team with 11.8 points per game and is shooting 31.4 percent from free throw range. Yanessa Boyd is second on the team in scoring with 9.0 points per game.Â
Following Thursday's game, the Orange will take a short break for the holidays before returning to action on Dec. 31 against Notre Dame for the Atlantic Coast Conference opener at 2 p.m.Â
