Orange Earn Victory Versus Big Red

Sophomore guard Judah Mintz scored 28 points, including a career-high five 3-pointers, and Syracuse (6-3) held off Cornell (7-2), 81-70, in the JMA Wireless Dome on Tuesday night. It represented the Orange's 43rd consecutive triumph against their Central New York rivals.
In addition to Mintz's team-leading effort, sophomore forwards Chris Bell had 19 points and Justin Taylor contributed 15 points and eight rebounds.

WHEN THE GAME WAS DECIDED
While Syracuse led 71-61 with 5:54 to go, Cornell scored seven unanswered points to cut the Orange lead to three, 71-68. The Big Red run was halted by a jump shot from sophomore guard J.J. Starling with 2:11 on the clock, increasing the Orange's edge to 73-68. With less than a minute to go, the Big Red were forced to foul, sending Copeland and then Mintz to the line where they each made two foul shot attempts and secured the win for Syracuse.

A FIRST HALF BATTLE
The Big Red established an early four-point lead, 5-1, before the Orange made three unanswered shots from beyond the arc, including one from Bell and two from Mintz, to flip the score to a 10-5 Syracuse advantage. The Orange did not trail for the rest of the contest. Syracuse led by as many as 13 points in the beginning frame. With a one-point Orange edge at the 11:05 mark in the first half, sophomore forward Quadir Copeland made a jumper, Justin Taylor tossed in a 3-pointer and Kyle Cuffe Jr. laid it in off a turnover to give Syracuse an eight-point advantage at 22-14.

While Cornell was trailing 33-20 with 4:56 before halftime, the Big Red clawed their way back to a single-digit deficit after an 11-1 scoring run which including two 3-pointers from Cooper Noard and one from Keller Boothby. The Orange entered the intermission with a 34-31 edge.

CORNELL COMES CLOSE
The Orange came out hot after halftime, making their first four field goals, including a 3-pointer and a layup from Bell, and one layup each from Mintz and J.J. Starling. With a six-point lead at the 13:33 mark in the second half, the Orange strung together a 11-3 run backed by consecutive 3-point makes from Mintz, a long-range jumper from Taylor and field goal off a turnover from Bell to take the squad's largest advantage of the game at 64-50.

Syracuse travels to the country's capital, Washington, D.C., to face Georgetown on December 9 in the Capital One Arena. Tipoff is set for 11:30 a.m. and the game will be televised on Fox.
