SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Graduate student Meaghan Tyrrell highlights a group of five Syracuse women's lacrosse players named to Inside Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason All-America Team released on Friday, February 3.
Â
Meaghan Tyrell, a Tewaaraton Award finalist a year ago, earned a spot on the Preseason All-America First Team. Senior Emma Tyrrell was selected to the second team, while senior Kate Mashewske earned third-team honors. In addition, graduate student Megan Carney and junior Katie Goodale were honorable mention honorees.
Â
Meaghan Tyrrell finished sixth in the nation in goals (78) and seventh in points (111) last season. Â
Mashewske had a breakout season in the draw circle last season. She ranked sixth in the nation in draw controls, averaging 8.48 per game. Mashewske finished the year with 178, which ranked third on Syracuse's single-season record list.
Â
Carney finished the 2022 season with 48 points on 31 goals and 17 assists despite missing five games due to injury. She scored three or more goals in seven contests, including a season-high five in the Orange's come-from-behind win against Duke. Carney recorded her 200th career point against Virginia in the ACC Tournament.
Â
Goodale will anchor Syracuse's defense this season after leading the team with 28 caused turnovers a year ago. Her 1.33 caused turnovers per game ranked fourth in the ACC. Goodale also recorded 30 ground balls, which ranked second on the team. She was an IWLCA All-Northeast Region Second Team honoree in her first year as a starter.
