Hockey to Close CHA Regular Season at Home

Syracuse will host Mercyhurst in the final regular season College Hockey America series on Friday, Feb. 10 (6 pm) and Saturday, Feb. 11 (3 pm). The Friday game is Military Appreciation Night, which will include giveaway items for all active military and veterans. All kids in attendance both games are invited to join the Kids Corner to welcome the Orange onto the ice before each period.

The Orange (9-20-2, 6-7-1 CHA) are in third place in the CHA, while Mercyhurst (15-13-2, 7-3-2) is in second. Syracuse and Mercyhurst played in Erie two weeks ago with the Lakers winning the first game and the second resulting in a 1-1 overtime tie. Orange sophomore Sarah Marchand tallied the first goal of the game, assisted by Lauren Bellefontaine and Mae Batherson, early in the third period and then Mercyhurst tied the score four minutes later. Syracuse goaltender Arielle DeSmet recorded 50 saves in the game.

What to Watch For
Orange goaltender Arielle DeSmet is chasing the Syracuse single-season saves record. The Charlotte, Vt. native has 781 stops in 29 games this season. The Orange record is 946 set in 2009-10 by Lucy Schoedel (36 games). DeSmet's 1,566 saves in her two seasons at Syracuse ranks sixth on the Orange career saves record list.

Syracuse graduate student Lauren Bellefontaine is three assists shy of breaking Steph Grossi's Syracuse career assist record. Belefontaine has 69 helpers, while Gross had 72. Bellefontaine's 106 career points rank third on the Orange record chart. She is also chasing Grossi for that record. Grossi tallied 117 career points while in Orange.

Junior defenseman Hannah Johnson has 67 blocks this season, which leads the CHA and ranks sixth on the Orange single season record list. The standard is 80, set by Jessica DiGirolamo in 2021-22.

Mark Your Calendar
The Orange will host Senior Day when they play Stonehill on Feb. 18 at 2 pm. A group of six skaters will be honored at the game, including, Batherson, Bellefontaine, DeSmet, Brynn Koocher, Anna Leschyshyn and Marielle McHale. During their Syracuse careers, the Orange won the 2019 and 2022 CHA Tournament Championships, the 2022 CHA Regular Season Championship.
