Q&A With Tessa Queri

We continue our Q&A series with graduate student Tessa Queri.
What were some of the reasons you came to Syracuse?
When the Ivy League cancelled two years of athletics due to COVID-19, I knew I didn't want my lacrosse career to end there in 2020. Syracuse had the exact master's program I wanted to pursue, and it was almost too convenient to play where I call home. Then after last year and knowing I was eligible for a sixth year, that decision was a no brainer. I love my teammates here at Syracuse and would have regretted not taking the opportunity to spend as much time with them as possible.
Â
Who is your role model in lacrosse or who did you love to watch growing up?
Growing up in Syracuse, I was fortunate to play with and watch great players all within a mile of my house. I always looked up to the older girls on my high school and Harvard teams because they were all incredibly driven and talented groups of girls.
Â
What is the best piece of advice you could give a younger lacrosse player?
I'd say my biggest piece of advice would be to work hard both on and off the field. By having great grades, lacrosse abilities, and being kind, you're setting yourself up for the best opportunities possible. But most importantly, make sure you're having fun throughout it all and be present in every moment big or small - it'll be over before you know it!
Â
What is your favorite hobby when not playing lacrosse?
Outside of lacrosse I enjoy different crafts. I'll go back and forth between painting, drawing, sewing… really whatever I feel most creative in at the time.
Â
Do you have any pregame rituals?
I always make my buddy on the team a fun card before the game which I put in her locker and then I usually just chat and laugh with Meaghan Tyrrell until it's time to start warming up.
Â
Go to karaoke song:
Any duet as long as my partner's Tate Paulson.
Â
If you could have any superpower, which would you pick?
Definitely to read minds. I'd love to know people's stream of thought and how other brains work.
Â
Favorite celebrity:

Maggie Rogers. I just love her music, style & energy - she's just all-around a cool chick.

Â
Best dancer on the team?
Chloe Bethea-Jones without a doubt.
Â
Best cook on the team?
Megan Carney for sure as she creates 75% of my weekly meals.
Â
Best taste in music?
Evan Johnston's car is one of my favorites to ride in for this reason.
Â
Funniest teammate?
Luckily, we have a hilarious team, but I'd have to say Hallie Simkins always makes me laugh. However, if you're looking to run with a bit, I'd have to give that one to Jenny Markey.
Â
Who are you excited to see play this year?
It's been amazing to see how well Megan (Carney, Sierra (Cockerille), Emma (Tyrrell), and Emma (Ward) are playing coming off their injuries from last year. I'm also excited to continue to watch Delaney Sweitzer in net as she's been lights out so far.
