Jaheem Hayles, who finished fourth at the NCAA Championships in the 60-meter hurdles, has earned Northeast Region Athlete of the Year honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Hayles turned in a personal best time of 7.61 seconds in the NCAA final to take fourth and earn First Team All-America honors. Syracuse has claimed the award in four of the last-seven seasons, with JP Trojan (2021) and Justyn Knight (2017, 2018) having also won in that span. Jarret Eaton (2010, 2012) has also won the award in its history.
Hayles reached the NCAA final by running to a mark of 7.63 in the semis, and solidified his qualifying spot with a time of 7.68 seconds in the ACC Championship, where he was the runner up and earned First Team All-ACC accolades.
He and the Orange return to action next week to kick start the outdoor campaign.
