Syracuse (16-14, 9-10) hosts a trifecta of events on Saturday around its regular season finale with Wake Forest (18-12, 10-9) inside the JMA Wireless Dome at 5:00 p.m. Seniors will be celebrated, along with members of the 2003 National Championship Team, and the night will be encapsulated with Gerry McNamara's and Hakim Warrick's jersey retirement.
SETTING THE STAGE
Syracuse is in search of a win against Wake Forest to carry momentum into next week's ACC Tournament after dropping four out of its last five contests. The Demon Deacons enter the Dome following a narrow loss to Boston College, 71-69.
SENIOR DAY
The Orange will honor four seniors -- forward John Bol Ajak, center Jesse Edwards, guard Joseph Girard III and guard Symir Torrence -- in a pregame ceremony. The program will also recognize four senior managers -- Ross Brenner, Lee Gerstman, Nolan Hammond and Zach Paskal.
SYRACUSE-WAKE FOREST SERIES
The Orange hold a commanding 10-2 advantage in the all-time series against Wake Forest, winning five out of the last six matchups. Syracuse has successfully defended the Dome, remaining undefeated against the Demon Deacons in all five home matchups, including last year's 94-72 triumph.
LAST TIME OUT
Syracuse allowed 18 three-pointers on Tuesday night, losing to Georgia Tech, 96-76, at home. Freshman guard Judah Mintz tallied team-highs in points (23) and assists (7) while senior center Jesse Edwards contributed 18 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks in the loss.
ORANGE LEADERS
Senior guard Joseph Girard III scores a squad-best 16.7 points per game, good for the sixth-highest average in the ACC. Mintz, the league's leader in steals average (1.8 spg.), sits behind Girard in scoring average with 16.2 points per contest. Edwards is averaging a double-double (14.1 ppg., 10.0 rpg.) and is also the ACC's top shot blocker (2.8 bpg.).
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
Graduate guard Tyree Appleby is the ACC leader in scoring average (18.7) and assists per game (6.2) and will be the first player in league history to top both categories if his position holds. As a team, Wake Forest has made more three-pointers than any other squad in the ACC (285), led by junior guard Damari Monsanto and graduate guard Daivien Williamson who shoot 40.5% and 39.3% from deep, respectively.
MCNAMARA AND WARRICK JERSEY RETIREMENT
Twenty years after playing a major role in Syracuse's first NCAA Basketball Championship, Gerry McNamara '06 and Hakim Warrick '05 will have their Orange jerseys hoisted to the Dome rafters. The jersey retirements will take place on Sunday, March 4 when Syracuse hosts Wake Forest at 5:00 p.m. in the JMA Wireless Dome.
20TH ANNIVERSARY OF '03 CHAMPIONSHIP
Syracuse University Athletics will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the men's basketball program's 2003 NCAA Championship throughout the 2022-23 season, culminating with a reunion at the March 4 contest with Wake Forest. Members of the 2002-03 national title team have been invited to return to Syracuse for planned activities the weekend of March 3-5, 2023.
