THE GAME
- The ninth and final regular season home game of the 2023 season is here for the Syracuse men's lacrosse program. The Orange return to ACC play and begin a gauntlet in the month of April, leading with No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday at the JMA Wireless Dome.
- It is the only meeting between the Orange and the Fighting Irish this spring after the pair met twice a year ago.
- Opening faceoff is set for 2 p.m., with Senior Day festivities happening prior to the game start.
- ACC Network will carry the game live on Saturday with Drew Carter '19 and Tewaaraton Trophy winner Matt Ward on the call.
- Tim Leonard '20 (PxP) and Kyle Fetterly '09 (analyst) will broadcast the action on TK99/105, Cuse.com, The Varsity App and the TuneIn App, while WAER will also carry the game.
ONE MORE (REGULAR SEASON) RIDE
- Saturday will be the final regular season home game for some members of the Syracuse University men's lacrosse, fulfilling childhood dreams of playing in a legendary venue: The Dome.
- Prior to Saturday's game (roughly 20 minutes before opening faceoff), Syracuse will honor 15 members of the program. Some will enter the real world, some have eligibility left. Decisions will be made at the end of the 2023 season.
- The following players and a manger will be honored: Ethan Cohen (manager), Brandon Aviles, Joe Bolea, Landon Clary, John Cohen, Griffin Cook, Pete Fiorini, Nick Fraterrigo, Cole Kirst, Jake Murphy, Michael Page, Alex Simmons, Brett Tenaglia, Harrison Thompson, and Shaffer Woody.
THE NOTRE DAME SERIES
- This weekend, Syracuse and Notre Dame clash for the 20th time on the men's lacrosse field, a series that reaches back to the 2001 campaign, a 12-5 Syracuse win in the NCAA Semifinals.
- All-time Syracuse is 10-9 against the Irish, but this year's visitors have won the last five games, including both meetings last season.
- Syracuse won the first five meetings, holding Notre Dame to single digit goals in four of those contests.
- The Orange are 6-8 against Notre Dame in conference clashes, competing in both the BIG EAST and now in the ACC.
- Syracuse head coach Gary Gait is 0-2 all-time against Notre Dame on the men's side, but went 12-3 against the Irish as the women's head coach. Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan is 9-10 against Syracuse.
ALL-TIME VERSUS #3
- Saturday will be the 27th time Syracuse squares off against a team ranked third in that week's USILA Coaches' Poll, dating back to the Poll's first season in 1973.
- Since its first meeting against a third-ranked opponent in 1979, Syracuse is 15-11, including wins in the last two chances, a 15-14 win over Duke in 2018 and a 20-10 doubling up of Virginia in 2021.
- Syracuse will meet a third-ranked Notre Dame team for just the second time. The Fighting Irish got the best of Syracuse 8-6 in the April 28, 2012 meeting in South Bend.
WHEN THE LIGHTS GO DOWN
- Saturday marks the final home game of the 2023 regular season. The Orange have had lots of success in the final home game of the regular season since moving to the Dome.
- All-time since 1981, Syracuse is 35-6 in the regular season home finale, including wins in 21 straight years from 1982 through 2002. Syracuse is a clean 9-0 against UMass in the regular season home finale, the most common foe.
