The NCAA Track and Field Championships are here! Jaheem Hayles and Amanda Vestri will represent the Orange on Friday in Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend.
MEET INFO
Date: March 10-11
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Friday Times: 7:05 p.m. ET (5k) | 9:55 p.m. ET (60H)
Saturday times: 9:40 p.m. ET (60H Final)
Women's 5,000-Meter Run
Amanda Vestri, who set the school record in the 5k earlier this season, will kick things off in the women's 5k.
The event is a one-race final of 16 competitors.
She took fourth in the event at the ACC Championships two weeks ago. Vestri has a seed time of 15:42.48. NC State's Katelyn Tuohy enters as the meet favorite in 15:15.92.
Vestri is a six-time All-ACC performer in her time at 'Cuse between cross country and track. She's looking to add another All-America award to her list of accolades after most recently finishing as a USTFCCCA Second Team All-American in the 2021 outdoor season.
Men's 60-Meter Hurdles
Jaheem Hayles will race for the 'Cuse men later on Friday night in the 60-meter hurdles. He's looking to continue a strong lineage of Orange in the event, as Jarret Eaton won the NCAA title in the 60-meter hurdles in 2012 and Freddie Crittenden III was a two-time NCAA runner-up, among other strong performances.
Hayles is tied for 10th nationally in the event this season with a seed time of 7.68 seconds, which he set at the ACC Championships during a runner-up finish.
He'll be in the second of two preliminary heats. The top-two finishers from each heat, plus the next-four fastest times will advance to Saturday's final.
USC's Omotade Ojora has the nation's fastest time to date (7.53) and is in the first heat. Texas Tech's Caleb Dean (7.54) is the favorite from Hayles' heat.
If he can advance, Saturday's race will come at 9:40 p.m. ET.
